Overview

Managing a band is a tall task for a number of reasons. A successful band leader will have great time management, communication, attention to detail, among many other skills. Not to mention, most band leaders are also performing in addition to all of the admin work that makes an event possible.

Apart from Back on Stage, there really isn't a solution that allows band leaders to do their job without using numerous tools. Most band leaders aren't in it for the admin work, they're in it because they love playing music.

Back on Stage launched it's first iteration in 2020 with the mission to transform the industry and empower band leaders with a comprehensive band management solution.

Creating & Executing Events

Creating an event is the backbone of what makes Back on Stage a valuable solution to band leaders. During our research phase, we conducted heuristic evaluations, user interviews, usability tests, and reviewed customer support tickets.

The biggest difference between the old and new designs apart from the branding changes was how our users will navigate between subtasks. By introducing a new navigation and side panels within the event booking page we allowed ourselves the flexibility to sort content in a way that was both digestible and accessible.

Segmenting Tasks

We altered the form style from the accordion style to a wizard. This allowed us to break up the content, reduce the cognitive load, and provide progress indicators.

Reimagining the Navigation

We improved the functionality of the navigation by including sub items. Additionally, we added an overview panel that allows users to quickly navigate to events that may require immediate attention.

Centralizing Information

By centralizing where users find and view events, users are able to easily find what they're looking for and complete tasks all in one place.

Improving Content Structure

By introducing tabs within the event panel, we were able to break up the content into easily digestible chunks.

The Result

Overall, the revamped interface garnered positive feedback, resulting in a significant 13% uptick in user retention and a subsequent revenue surge of over 15%. Furthermore, there was a notable reduction in customer support tickets associated with the booking task flow.

The founders of Back on Stage were exstatic with both the redesign outcomes and the refreshed look and feel of the app. As a result, they have extended the same principles to enhance the remaining task flows of the application.
